Wayne Ensrud 1989
The first of Wayne Ensrud’s creations for Willi’s (he joined the ranks of our repeat offenders with a very flamboyant creation in 2000) is a miracle of chance. When the Anthony Palliser poster originally intended for 1989 failed to materialize (Anthony’s social life being the primary cause) I called on American artist Wayne Ensrud.
It was to be an inspired choice… !
An exuberant artist of gargantuan tastes and surprising tenacity, Wayne was super delighted & super excited to follow in the footsteps of the graphic master of his time, A.M Cassandre. Inspired by the iconic 1982 A.M Cassandre poster, which had captured his imagination, he produced this wonderful, and deceptively simple homage in dripped paint and (almost) primary colours.
It made quite a splash at the time of its completion—so much so that it has been out of print for some decades.
I feel it is now high time for this unique image in the Bottle Art Collection to make a ‘retour en force’ in the form of a special, limited edition.
Get ready, it’s the Ensrud risorgimento !
