Out of the blue came a phonecall. "Quelle surprise mon vieux !"

My good friend, and artist of international (dis)repute Anthony Palliser was on the line, having made the extraordinary discovery of a small cache of original 1990 signed Vélin Edition posters under his bed, where they have been hiding, unseen, untouched and unsullied for thirty years.

From the moment of it's completion, this wonderful take on Delacroix's Liberté guidant le peuple has been one of our best loved and enduringly popular posters. The édition vélin sold out in record time back in the 90s, the enthusiasm undoubtedly fuelled by the Wine Spectator having banned this sober portrait of the beautiful Sabine. A prescient fit of puritanical angst, no doubt.

Much of art (and wine) is about making good use of nature's gifts. And so tout naturellement must we return these prized pieces to the world, in a vente très très exclusive.

The moral of this story is... Make your bed ! You never know what you might find...

This poster also exists in an Edition Anniversaire - see here

L'artiste

Anthony Palliser has many things to be forgiven for, not least being a year late with his Willi's commission—and that having solicited it !

This artist of two cities, Savannah, GA and Paris, Fr, portraitist to many instantly recognisable faces from the world of film, poetry & literature, has led a life not unlike Picasso—painting every day for over half a century in an obsessional manner and ever diminishing space... which led him to rediscover the handful of Signed Vélin Editions we are offering here.

Anthony's many other works may be viewed and in some cases purchased here.
